Ghosts of Greyhounds Past

Ok.  So it's not always the things that go "bump in the night".

Sometimes it might be the middle of the day.  Like today.

I was sitting in our TV room updating the List of Contributors for the 2012 edition of the Retired from Racing not from Life Art Book.  It's an overcast, slightly dreary day, but not spooky by any means.    The house is quiet.  I'm zipping along on my to-do list.  A wonderful productive day.

That's when I hear it.

The clink of a utensil on a dish.

I quickly look around the room expecting to see one of the girls missing.

Stella is on my left.  She's snuggled into the duvet with me on the couch.

Tosca is across from me on her mat.

Both are tourists in Dreamland.

Neal is on the golf course.  Or did he come back for something?

Slowly, I put my computer down and tip toe into the kitchen.

Nothing.

I stand there, looking around the room for answers.  No windows are open.  The doors are locked.

Huh?

A smirk spreads across my face.  Sophie & Tutu* you little buggers.

I would like to say that these kinds of things don't happen around here.  But they seem to occur a lot.

Clinking dishes in an empty room.  The click of toenails on the floor when both of the dogs are sound asleep.  Indentations on bedspreads.  A sigh of contentment in a room where there are no dogs.  The list goes on and on.

Maybe I'm just going crazy, but I prefer to think of it as a visit from the Ghosts of Greyhounds Past.

*Sophie & Tutu passed away in 2011.  They were our expert Counter Surfers.

My mom recently lost her 13 year old golden retriever and she says she has had some of the same experiences as you. Nails clicking on hardwood floors, water dishes, and even an angel that hangs on the window where Daisy used to sit and look out, moving. I find the thought of it all comforting somehow.
